As a July 1, 2016 compliance date comes closer, many public agencies are starting to discuss what this Senate Bill means and how it will affect them. SB 272 requires each local agency, except a local educational agency, to create a catalog of enterprise systems.

An enterprise system is defined as a software application or computer system that collects, stores, exchanges and analyzes information an agency uses that is both a system of record and a multi-departmental system or a system that contains information collected about the public.

To meet this requirement, we utilize a free web-based program from Streamline (www.getstreamline.com). Alternatively, agencies could use variety of tools, such as spreadsheets, to maintain this information and make it available on their website or in their place of business as required by the new law.
