By January 1st, 2021, all employers in California who have 5 or more employees will be required to ensure that all employees have taken Sexual Harassment Prevention Training. This is a biennial training requirement, meaning that a retraining is due every 2 years from the date the employee is first trained, and then subsequently every 2 years after that.
Depending on an employee’s classification, there is a difference in training that is required, which is covered hereafter:
- Supervisors, managers, directors, executives, board members and trustees are required to take 2 hours of Sexual Harassment Prevention, with recertification biennially
- Employees who have no supervisory duties are required to take 1 hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention, with recertification biennially
GSRMA members are encouraged to utilize TargetSolutions to complete their Anti-Harassment trainings. TargetSolutions is an online repository of trainings that is available to GSRMA members at no cost. TargetSolutions has both Employee and Supervisory level Harassment courses, AB1825 Ethics courses required of all CA board members, and many other courses ranging from first aid to office ergonomics. If your district is not yet utilizing TargetSolutions, please reach out to our Loss Prevention Department, so that we may set up your account.
Agencies that employ individuals whose native language is not English are encouraged to use the Department of Fair and Equal Housing(DFEH) for free Anti-Harassment training, located here. Currently, trainings offered at DFEH include English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. By the end of the year trainings will also be available in Chinese, Korean, and Tagalog.
Should you have any questions about the upcoming requirements, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Loss Prevention Department.
